About me.

As mentioned earlier, the 1600 cc. Ford CVH engine has had the cylinder head gasket replaced some time ago along with the plugs and HT leads.

The air filter assembly was unfixed and the fixing plates and brackets were found in the boot, however all of the air intake pipe-work supplying the filter etc and fittings are missing.

The filter element appears to be rather old and dirty and there is a lot of overspill from engine oil, either refilling it or draining the unit when stripping down. Once cleaned off and run up to temperature no new oil leaks were noticed suggesting that there is no problem.

When delivered there was very little coolant water in the engine and no anti freeze detected. When running up to operating temperature the engine faltered and stopped many times due to contaminated fuel and a lack of fuel as there was apparently less than one gallon in the tank.

I was able to get enough of a run to allow anti freeze to be put into the engine and air bleed it all showing no leaks.

Initial checks suggest that the fuel tank has been left with a small amount of fuel in it for some time as there is fine rust sediment and residual “gluey” gum around that occurs when petrol evaporates leaving a base oil in the tank that causes blockages and poor running.

The tank appears to have been cleaned but a steam clean type process is planned for the interior of the tank.
