About me.

Boot and luggage area.

The SS1 is renowned for its generous luggage area both within the car and the boot - compared to its peers that is.

The rear of the seat area has quite a large usefully area under the stowed hood which can be enclosed (but not necessarily securely) by the hood ‘tonneau’ {pronounced ‘ta’no’ apparently} . It is said that this area will freely take a child’s car seat and some hand luggage but I have my doubts about the wisdom of such a mounting location for this. It will however be large enough to accommodate our dog if she ever sits still long enough.

The floor of the boot unit has a deep well under a substantial wooden board that is best used for valuables but also enables larger items to be transported simply by lifting the mat and board, both of which will store upright against the boot back panel.

There is a boot light that has been dismantled and does not work at the moment. While accessing the parts for this the boot lining tub has been partially slackened and many screws and / or rivets  taken out and lost.

The boot lid is supported by a ratchet type level that locks when lifted up and has to be manually unlocked to lower again. Some cars have been retro fitted with ‘gas struts’ as on later models but this type is original for this year.

The condition of the boot tub (glass fibre structure) is excellent and relatively unmarked, as are the mats and wooden panel.

Around the top door seal trim the rubber has been pulled off and left lose but it is undamaged and will refit OK.

Removal of the boot tub will enable free access to many areas under and within the chassis, in the main the fuel tank that is sat directly behind the tub back and rearward to the ‘space frame’ structure above the rear sub frames.
